Primitive 19thC Baker's shop counter
An exceptionally rare piece of British history,
Purchased from a Devon Bakers shop, this counter is original to the building.
Had been in place since the early 1800's changed over the years to suit the changing business requirments.
Diminutive in size for a shop counter, with a slanted front thought to prevent the flour falling into the drawer fronts. Also to allow the staff to stand closer to the counter (please see photos)
Original cash drawer still complete with original key in the lock (key seized in situ)
The original grain painted finish now crazed and discoloured with age.
Untouched throughout the last 150-200 years.
The cupboard doors are constructed from what would have been drawer fronts. Look to have been alterred pre 1900 due to the patination.
The counter top retaining the wear from both staff and customers.
A piece to be seen due to it's rarity and originality, sympathetically restored for use in a home.
87cm High (lower than modern day counter tops)
