An original Brucciani plaster model of a horse

This is stamped as Brucciani and has the catalogue number 2753 which corresponds to a horse.

This piece was purchased from an ex model that had been gifted the horse in the early 1980's

As an art school this was a regularly used model. It has signs or wear and tear.

Repairs to one leg and tail

Ears are missing

And numerous knocks and bumps.

These do not detract from the models beauty and remains an excellent and exceptionally rare survivor

I have been unable to find another example of the horse as yet!

Domenico Brucciani & Co. (1882-1906) was set up by Joseph L. Caproni at 148 Grays Inn Road as a continuation of the modelling, plaster cast and teaching work carried out by Domenico Brucciani (1815-1880). Domenico was born in Lucca, Italy, and set up business in London, establishing a Gallery of Casts in Covent Garden by 1837. His business built up links with both the British Museum and the South Kensington Museum now the Victoria and Albert museum.
